| Omnibus Public Lands Bill |
2/8/2009 |

On January 13, 2009 an action alert was sent out regarding the Omnibus Public Lands Bill (S. 22) which was then in the Senate. The Senate approved the bill last month, and it is now scheduled to be considered by the House next week. TU National is again calling on grassroots members to contact their Representatives to encourage them to vote in support of the bill. It will go on what is called the suspension calendar, requiring a 2/3 vote to pass. If for some reason it does not pass, the bill will go to a closed rule vote. No amendments would be allowed, but opponents to the bill could offer what is called a Motion to Recommit. A Motion to Recommit would essentially kill the bill, so it is important to relay to our Representatives to please vote against a Motion to Recommit. This week it is extremely important for our grassroots members to contact their Representatives and ask them to please support the Omnibus Public Lands Bill (S 22) when it is considered next week. Equally important is a request to oppose a Motion to Recommit the bill, should it reach that point. The Minnesota Representatives are as follows. Timothy Walz, 1st District (D) 202-225-2472 John Kline, 2nd District (R) 202-225-2271 Erik Paulsen, 3rd District (R) (202) 225-2871 Betty McCollum, 4th District (D) (202) 225-6631 Keith Ellison, 5th District (D) (202) 225-4755 Michelle Bachmann, 6th District (R) (202) 225-2331 Collin Peterson, 7th District (D) (202) 225-2165 James Oberstar, 8th District (D) (202) 225-6211
